The islands were monetized in July 2002. The Post Office in Agalega facilitates basic banking transactions through the MauBank. The OIDC also runs two shops, one on each island, where the inhabitants purchase their food supplies and other provisions. <\/p>\n
Coconut Plantation and Coconut Oil Production:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n The only resource available on the islands is coconut. With its 2,600 hectares of land, Agalega has around 80,000 to 100,000 standing coconut trees. Coconut plantation is distributed over an area of 800 hectares or around 30% of the total surface area. Coconut oil production is one of the main economic activities on the island.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1610353285938{margin-bottom: 50px !important;}”][vc_column width=”2\/3″][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n Agalega is serviced by MV Mauritius Trochetia, which is chartered by the OIDC. Its associated infrastructure comprises an Air Traffic Control Tower, a Passenger Terminal Building, a hangar, an open aircraft shelter and fire fighting services amongst others; and[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1610353309636{margin-bottom: 50px !important;}”][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n There is one Deputy Headmaster (DHM) who is the Ag. Headmaster (HM) in Agalega who heads both schools at primary level. The present Ag.
