There are two major fishing grounds in the area of St Brandon: St Brandon up to South Albatross and the area north of Albatross. The sustainable yield of the two fishing grounds in the St Brandon area has been estimated by the Albion Fisheries Research Centre of the Ministry of Fisheries to be around 1,280t (680t and 600t respectively for the two fishing grounds) based on historical data.
In order to avoid overcapitalization and overexploitation of the fishery resources, fishing operations in the area of St. Brandon are allowed through a precautionary approach involving the licensing of fishing vessels.
